Merari
The third son of Levi and ancestor of the Merarite clan. Their charge was the framework of the tabernacle — the boards, bars, pillars, sockets, pegs and cords — the heaviest load, carried on four wagons and eight oxen. They camped on the north side and were given twelve towns, including several east of the Jordan. Merarite Levites reappear among the temple musicians and among those who returned with Ezra.
