Gershon
The eldest son of Levi and ancestor of the Gershonite clan. In the wilderness their charge was the fabric of the tabernacle — the curtains, the tent and its covering, the screen for the door, the hangings of the court and their cords — carried on two wagons and four oxen under the direction of Ithamar. They camped behind the tabernacle on the west side, and later received thirteen towns in the northern tribal territories.
