Illustration created for this project.

Ahaziah of Judah

A king of Judah, son of Jehoram and Athaliah and grandson of Ahab, who reigned only a year. He walked in the ways of Ahab's house — his mother was his counsellor to do wickedly — and joined Joram of Israel in war against Hazael of Aram. Visiting the wounded Joram at Jezreel, he was caught in Jehu's purge and killed. His death cleared the way for Athaliah to seize the throne and destroy the royal seed, all but the infant Joash hidden by Jehosheba.

Role: King of Judah
Lived: c. 864 BC – c. 841 BC
Tribe/lineage: Judah
