Peninnah
The second wife of Elkanah, who had children while Hannah had none. Scripture says she was Hannah's rival and provoked her grievously to irritate her, year after year, when the family went up to the sanctuary at Shiloh — until Hannah wept and would not eat. She is the pressure that drives Hannah to the vow that produced Samuel.
