Javan
A son of Japheth in the table of nations, and the ancestor from whom scripture traces the Greeks — the name is the Hebrew form of Ionia. His sons Elishah, Tarshish, Kittim and Rodanim are the maritime peoples of the Mediterranean rim. Ezekiel lists Javan among the traders who dealt with Tyre in slaves and bronze vessels, and Daniel's visions use the name for the Greek power that would follow Persia.
