Annas

The former high priest and father-in-law of Caiaphas, who retained enormous influence long after the Romans deposed him — Luke can still speak of the high-priesthood of Annas and Caiaphas together. Jesus was taken to him first after the arrest in Gethsemane, and questioned about his disciples and teaching before being sent bound to Caiaphas. He also sat among the rulers who examined Peter and John after the healing at the Beautiful Gate.
