Theophilus
The 'most excellent' patron to whom Luke addressed both his gospel and the Acts of the Apostles. Luke tells him the purpose plainly: having followed everything closely from the beginning, he is writing an orderly account so that Theophilus may know the certainty of the things he has been taught. Nothing else is known of him — the title suggests rank, and the name means 'lover of God'.
