Sapphira

The wife of Ananias in the Jerusalem church. The believers were selling property and laying the proceeds at the apostles' feet; the couple sold a field, kept back part of the price, and brought the rest as though it were the whole. Peter asked Ananias why Satan had filled his heart to lie to the Holy Spirit, and he fell down dead. Three hours later Sapphira came in, not knowing, and was asked whether they had sold the land for so much. She said yes, and fell at Peter's feet.
