ScholarlyTimothy's mother bears the Greek name Eunike, a compound of eu ('good') and nike ('victory'), i.e. 'good victory.' The text presents her as a Jewish believer married to a Greek, a mixed household reflected in her son's uncircumcised status, which fits the mixed Greco-Jewish onomastics of Roman Asia Minor.
