ScholarlyEliud (Greek Elioud) is a rare name appearing only in Matthew's genealogy; its Hebrew base is uncertain, commonly explained as 'God is majesty/splendor' ('El + hod) or associated with the form Abihud. He has no external attestation of any kind — the name meaning is the only defensible point.
Onomastic reconstruction of Ἐλιούδ from a Hebrew *ʾĒlîhûd; etymology debated (hod = 'majesty'); cf. Abihud in 1 Chronicles 8:3.
