Phoebe
A deacon of the church at Cenchreae, the eastern port of Corinth, whom Paul commends to the Romans at the head of his long list of greetings. He asks them to welcome her in a way worthy of the saints and to help her in whatever she may need, because she has been a patron of many and of himself as well. It is generally understood that she carried the letter to Rome.
