Julius
The centurion of the Augustan Cohort given charge of Paul and the other prisoners for the voyage to Rome. He treated Paul kindly, letting him visit friends at Sidon, though he listened to the captain and the owner rather than to Paul over wintering in Crete. When the ship broke up off Malta and the soldiers proposed killing the prisoners to stop any escaping, Julius overruled them because he wanted to save Paul.
