ScholarlyEutychus (Greek Eutychos, 'fortunate' or 'lucky') was an extremely common name for slaves and freedmen across the Greco-Roman world. Its cheerful meaning forms an ironic counterpoint to the young man's deadly fall from the third-storey window at Troas.
Greek onomastics; the name is abundantly attested as a servile/freedman name in Roman-era inscriptions and papyri.
